Another bday
Hello Calder!
This last week seemed like it took forever to get through! I’m not sure why?! I’ve had crazy dreams each night...one strange one that Caleb Lohner was in and one night I dreamt all about you and Texas! Here’s a recap of the week. You know lots of it, but here goes...
The big birthday weekend came to an end and another big bday tomorrow for McKay. The weekend was full of celebrating and friends bday party and all the fun we could pack in. Luckily we packed in a lot because Monday started with the lockdown governor's mandate and rising Covid numbers. So, Gwen will likely be our only 2020 family birthday that actually got to celebrate. Here we are at Benihana’s (pic1) and had a great time. McKay’s feeling a little melancholy about his day tomorrow. It’s looking to be a little lame (not in school) and no friends can hang out. I also think the older you get, the more you realize that it’s just another day. It’s the sad reality of life...
The Crumbl cookies from Carli were a total hit. She replied back “you are so welcome” and that was it. She’s super thoughtful, that’s for sure! (Pic2)
More pics from the mountain bike banquet/drive through awards, which was about the best they could do given all the restrictions. It was kind of a bummer because McKay got a couple of awesome awards and it would have been fun to celebrate with everyone. He didn’t care to much. Chalk it up to 2020 (pic3)
And the celebrations have officially begun for McKay. Flank steak and masked potatoes for dinner (pic 4,6&7) as well as a bday cake, that McKay didn’t really want but I forced on him.
Twinner shirts for Jane and her main man (pic5). She was thrilled to be matchers. She definitely came to the wrong family. She would have thrived on matching in the Simmons family!
And I had to snap a picture of the “magic carpet ride” (pic8&9) that happens every night when Jane goes to bed. She lays her snaggly, beat up blanket on Tony’s back and poses as he carries her up the stairs with her singing “a whole new world”. It’s pretty funny.
A little more background in the bday cake (pic6)...tonight was the celebration of the 150 years of the young women’s program. In May the general YW presidency challenged us to make this celebration special. Our young women’s got together and came up with some awesome 150 goals that we worked on together. We had to move our celebration online with the governor’s mandate. So our YWs committee decided to drop off cakes and icing for each girl to make a cake and we had a zoom call and voted on favorites. Mine would have won for great tasting (obviously 😂) but I’m not so much of a decorator. So, McKay got a cake. And the face to face fireside/celebration was fantastic. I am so grateful to have the young women’s program in my life. It’s a great program if the church Another testimony that this church is lead by the Lord!
I’m so looking forward to our talk tomorrow. I’m missing you! You’ve been on my mind A LOT this week. I’m praying for you! I never realized how a missionary son’s mission would grow my testimony, but it is. My prayers are more fervent and my scripture study is deeper. Thank you. I needed these things in my life. I’m constantly becoming a better person - more polished, more Christ-like - because of you.
Well, I hope you had a wonderful week! I love you and I’m praying for you!! Keep changing lives...if you can’t see that you’re changing those around you (which you are), know that you’re changing mine.
Love you tons!
MOM
